How It Works

Microchipping versus QR coded pet tags

Both of the above have adavantages and disadvantages in helping to identify  lost pets. A microchip can only be legally scanned by a veterinary surgeon or a person of authority, such as a dog warden and this restricts the number of people that can view the data held by the microchip. There is also a requirement by law to register the microchip on a DEFRA complaint database, which can result in a fine if this is not done, but despite this many pets are not registered on any database. The plus side is microchips usually do not get lost and are generally very reliable.  On the other hand QR coded pet tags can dispaly all the contact information in the same way as an ordinary dog tag, but they can be easily removed. A smart tag has the advantage that it can  be activated to notify the owner if the tag has been scanned by any preson that finds your pet, if you have marked it as lost in your dashboard.  So, both have advantages and disadvantages, but to help reunite you with your missing pet both the microchip and the tag help in different ways.

How It Works – Microchipping

There is no other way of identifying a stray pet, especially if they have no pet tag.

The microchip is scanned

Chips can only be scanned by people in authority, (POA), such as vets, dog wardens and the police

The database is checked

If your pet is found and the chip is scanned they will search our database to locate the keeper of the pet and then contact them

What does the POA find?

If registered with lost paws the POA will then see an image and details of your pet, they will then be able to contact you

How It Works – QR Coded Smart Tag

Eah tag has a unique code printed on it which when scanned shows your pet’s details in the smae way as a normal pet tag.

Your QR coded smart tag

If you select our premium offer your QR coded smart tag will be sent to you by Royal Mail. On arrival add the QR code to your pet’s dashboard, click the update button and log out. The tag is then activated and it works in the same way as a normal pet tag, displaying your contact details, but only if it is scanned.

 How does my tag work?

If in event your pet goes missing and the tag is scanned details displayed to the finder will allow them to contact you. At the same time as the tag is scanned you will get an email notifying you that the tag has been scanned and your pet has been located.  The finder we hope will then contact you and reunite you with your pet.
